WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT UNCONSCIOUS BIAS. The first thing you need to set up is your technology, but please don’t stop there! The people interviewing you WILL be looking over your shoulder to see what’s behind you, what’s on your desk, and what that person is doing behind you. It’s human nature. They can’t help it, and they will, unfortunately, jump to some conclusions about you if you don’t create a clean, quiet space. A messy room, for instance, delivers an unconscious impression that you will be disorganized and messy on the job … and nobody wants to bring that into their team.
