The 2 most important questions

  1. Too young for what? If you want to be the CEO of a $32 billion global company with 93,000 employees, and you have never run a business before in your life, then yeah … you might be too young for that. The thing is, it’s not your AGE, it’s your experience. And if you’re trying to check the boxes of what other people want, you might not have enough experience for it. But please do yourself a favor, and stop worrying about not being OLD enough, and focus on whether or not you have enough EXPERIENCE. Or, you could jump out on your own (start your own business), and chart your own path … like Mark Zuckerberg, who founded Facebook with college roommates on February 4, 2004. By 2007, at age 23, he was the world’s youngest self-made billionaire.
  2. Says who? Please be careful to check the advice and fear you’re hearing … and see who it is coming from. Is it coming from a recruiter or hiring manager who actually hires (or does not hire) people under 30? Or, is it coming from a magazine that wants to sell as many copies as possible? Or, from your unemployed friend who is terrified she will never get a job? Please make sure your advice and feedback are coming from people who can help you figure out if age discrimination is REALLY what’s going on.
